Extract the audio from a video

Pull the soundtrack out of an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM as WAV, FLAC or Opus. In your browser, nothing uploaded.

Open the converter

Drop a video on the audio converter and it reads the sound track straight out of the file — no video re-encoding, so it is much faster than converting the whole clip.

Choose WAV for maximum compatibility (8, 16 or 24-bit, or 32-bit float), FLAC for lossless audio at roughly half WAV's size, or Opus for the smallest file where your browser supports it. AIFF and AU are there too. You can also mix down to mono and resample.

The honest gap: there is no MP3 output. No browser includes an MP3 encoder, and shipping one would mean downloading a large codec every visit. FLAC and WAV open in every audio editor, and Opus is smaller than MP3 at the same quality.

Worth knowing. Which videos open depends on your browser's codecs; MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM with common audio tracks work in all major browsers. Audio is decoded in the tab, so very long recordings are limited by your device's memory.

Questions

Can I get an MP3?
Not directly — browsers don't expose an MP3 encoder. Export WAV or FLAC and any audio app can make an MP3 from it without further loss beyond the MP3 encode itself.
Is the quality reduced?
WAV and FLAC are lossless copies of the decoded audio. Only Opus is lossy.
Is the video uploaded?
No. The audio is decoded and written on your device.
