Convert JPG to WebP

Turn JPG or PNG images into smaller WebP files in your browser, in batches, with a quality control. Nothing uploaded.

WebP is the format to use when page weight matters: at a similar visual quality it is usually noticeably smaller than JPEG, and every current browser displays it. Drop one image or a whole folder's worth and convert them in one go.

A quality setting controls the trade-off between size and detail, and you can resize at the same time — usually the bigger saving, since a phone photo is several times larger than any web layout needs.

PNGs work too, and unlike a JPEG conversion, WebP keeps their transparency, so logos and cut-outs stay cut out.

Worth knowing. Re-encoding through the browser drops the photo's metadata — EXIF camera details and GPS location don't carry over into the WebP. That's usually what you want for images going on a website; if you only want to remove metadata without re-compressing, use the lossless EXIF remover instead.

Questions

Will WebP work everywhere?
In every current browser, yes. Some older desktop software still can't open WebP — keep the originals for those.
What quality should I pick?
Around 80 is a common starting point for photos. Compare the result at the size it'll actually be shown.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are decoded and encoded by your own browser.
