Convert WebVTT subtitles to SRT
Turn a .vtt caption file into a SubRip .srt for VLC, video editors and TVs. In your browser, nothing uploaded.
Open the converterYouTube downloads and web players give you WebVTT, but desktop players, editing software and smart TVs usually want SubRip .srt. The converter renumbers the cues from 1, switches the timestamps to SRT's comma format, and accepts the short mm:ss.ttt timestamps WebVTT allows.
WebVTT can do things SRT can't: cue positioning settings, NOTE and STYLE blocks, voice tags and inline formatting. Those have no SRT equivalent, so they are removed rather than left in the file where a player would show them as literal text on screen.
The direction is read from the file itself — a WEBVTT signature wins over the file extension — so a misnamed file still converts the right way.
Questions
- Why do I see tags like <v Speaker> in my player?
- That is WebVTT voice markup in an SRT player. Converting with this tool strips it.
- Can I go back to VTT?
- Yes, the same subtitle panel converts SRT to WebVTT.
- Is the file uploaded?
- No. It is converted in your browser.
